Putting Golf in the Good Life
Is it a coincidence that “Golf Life” sounds remarkably similar to “Good Life”? The Randpark Golf Club is one of the oldest national open golf championships in the world. It is one of the principal tournaments on the Sunshine Tour. It has also been co-sanctioned by the European Tour since 1997. With two of the best manicured courses in South Africa Randpark Golf Club is the definitive metropolitan golf destination on par with distinction. Randpark’s uniqueness offer golfers of varying ability a memorable experience.
Firethorn Course – This course boast an incredible history dating back to the mid-60s when Sid Brews, a local professional golfer and course architect designed the outstanding initial layout. The course over the years developed to host the SA Open twice in 1995 & 2000. Mark Muller the unsung course architect had a huge impression on this course with the enhancements, green modifications and aesthetical features he introduced to keep abreast of the times. A true test of championship golf, the course previously known as the Randpark Course is capable of stretching over 7000m of its back tees. To maintain the authority of the course and keep up with industry trends, the proficient designer Sean Quinn transformed the Firethorn course into its original offering. A true test for the skilled golfer yet friendly and forgiving enough to the everyday member.
Bushwillow Course – A relic of the Second World War, this course formerly known as Windsor Park is just shy of seven decades old. Originally a 12-hole layout the course was extended to a full 18-hole course in 1948. The current outstanding design requires all the different shots in the book. Posing a good challenge to all different skill levels this course is very well protected by rows of large trees alongside all fairways. Beautifully maintained and fairly short from tee to green this course underwent a small renovation, changing the layout somewhat and adding a couple of new green complexes.
Not only does the Randpark Golf Course offer world class facilities, they also offer some African firsts. The “inrange” app uses technology along with the more informal environment of the range to open up the game of golf with individual and multi-player offerings. Add Wellputt to that mix, the international leader in developing putting training concepts. All this managed by 2 PGA golf professionals at Blackbird Golf. Making practice fun again and redefining what ‘playing golf’ essentially looks like.
